Get Involved

There are so many ways to lend a helping hand! Your support and contributions enable Starfish Ukraine to achieve our mission.

  • Hosting

If you have an interest in hosting a Ukrainian family and you live Northern Ireland or Great Britain you can register on this website.
We know many people have already signed up on the UK Government website or through another organisation to register an interest in being a host family– there is no problem registering in more than one place. We have helped many Ukrainians to come to the UK and currently have more Ukrainians seeking refuge than we have safe homes to offer. We will do all we can to help you find a suitable match but if it transpires that hosting is not for you there are many other ways you can support Ukrainian refugees.
Starfish is a voluntary organisation helping to match Ukrainians with hosts. Whilst we have gained much knowledge and are happy to help as much as possible, hosts must understand that they are entering into the Government 'Homes for Ukraine' scheme and must be happy with being part of the scheme. Please read the government website to ensure you are content to proceed; Homes for Ukraine: sponsor guidance - GOV.UK (
Usually we do not have personal knowledge of the Ukrainians seeking refuge. Some will be contacts of those already here, others have contacted us via our website and therefore we cannot give assurance of their character. Hosts should seek to gain as much knowledge as possible through their initial contacts, which we facilitate. This process is extensive and hosts will be guided by one of our volunteers. Hosts should only proceed when/if they are happy to do so. We will not pressurise hosts into a match that they feel is not suitable.
By filling in the form you are showing that you agree to start to explore the hosting process with the help of our team.
Thank you so much for your interest.

  • Volunteering

The task of helping the citizens of Ukraine does not stop when the reach a safe place to stay. It is likely that long term assistance will be required for these families as they seek to make a temporary home for themselves in a foreign country, while still wanting to keep in touch with fellow Ukrainians and those family members that may have been left behind, or went to another country.

  • Supporting

You may be in a position to be able to support Ukrainian refugees on a more professional or collective basis. You may have certain skills that would be helpful as they seek to adjust to the changing circumstances around them. Counselling, financial advice, legal support, education provision, children's work, translation services, sports clubs, etc.

With the trauma the Ukrainian families will have experienced it is vital that additional support and help is provided for them in the short, medium and long term.

If you feel that you, or your business or organisation, feel that there is something you can offer to help these refugees please register your details here.
